As summer approaches, we are all spending more time in our gardens. Here we provide gardening tips and discuss home grown produce.
Given the current pandemic and dry, warmer weather, those of us fortunate enough to have a garden are spending more time in it, so we wanted to provide some gardening tips.
Those of you with green thumbs will appreciate the benefits of being outside, getting back to nature and getting your hands dirty whilst enjoying the fruits of your labours – be it from growing fruit, vegetables or flowers.
Gardening is an ideal activity for the elderly, as it’s relatively low risk, not too labour intensive and involves gentle, slow movements; an ideal activity without being too energetic.
Growing your own
The care taken over tending to plants also has a positive impact on our mental health and can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. Taking the time to focus our energies on planting and growing is an essential distraction away from the stresses and strains of everyday life – especially at a time such as this.
Another obvious benefit of ‘growing your own’ is the cost saving element when it comes to sourcing your own vegetables and fruit. Forget about a trip to your local supermarket and take a trip to your garden instead! The Royal Horticultural Society is a fantastic resource for gardening tips and advice, no matter your proficiency.
Ingredient sourcing
As members of the Ethical Trading Initiative, we recognise the importance of sustainability and responsible sourcing right from the raw ingredients stage all the way through to the ready meals delivered directly to your door. As an example, the cocoa we use in many of our desserts is Fairtrade, while all our palm oil is certified, ensuring the impact on the environment is as small as possible.
Ready meals delivered direct
So you can spend more time in the garden and less time worrying about planning for the next meal!
