How to spot the Signs of Dysphagia

Dysphagia is the clinical term for eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties...

 Common signs of dysphagia include: 

  • Coughing or choking on foods 

  • Difficulty chewing or controlling fluids in the mouth 

  • Food or drink coming out of the nose when swallowing

It is also important to look out for more subtle signs including changes in eating habits and eating slowly.

How to spot the Signs of Malnutrition

Malnutrition commonly refers to undernutrition, meaning not getting enough of the nutrients the body needs. Malnutrition can be prevented with a well-balanced diet including food from each food group; protein, carbohydrates, fruit & vegetables, dairy and healthy fats,  

 Common physics signs of malnutrition include: 

  • Weight loss
  • Clothes and jewellery become loose
  • Loss of muscle strength 

It is also important to look for subtle signs including alterations in moods, poor concentration and tiredness.
