STARS OF THE PAST Added 372 days ago. 20 July 2020 How many of these child stars do you remember from growing up with these classic film favourites? Kym Karath, The Sound of Music Best remembered as the youngest Von Trapp child in The Sound of Music, Kym went on to have a long and successful career as a child star, with main roles in everything from Lassie and Lost in Space, to The Brady Bunch and All My Children. Jenny Agutter, The Railway Children Securing her stardom as the eldest child, ‘Bobbie’ Waterbury, in The Railway Children, Jenny has since featured in several Hollywood films, including Walkabout, Logan’s Run and An American Werewolf in London. Still on screen today, Jenny is currently playing Sister Juliene in BBC’s Call the Midwife. Garry Warren, The Railway Children Another face from The Railway Children, Gary is a child star recognisable from much loved programmes such as Catweazle, Alexander the Greatest and Whack-O! Sadly, Gary gave up acting in the 70s, retreating from the limelight. Karen Dotrice, Mary Poppins Scouted by Disney at the age of 8, Karen sang and danced her way into the industry with none other than Julie Andrews when she was cast in the role of Jane Banks in Mary Poppins. Karen recently resurrected the role, returning as an adult Jane in Mary Poppins Returns. Mark Lester, Oliver! You’ll probably best recognise Mark as the sweet-singing lead of Oliver, from the 1968 adaptation of Charles Dicken’s classic novel, Oliver Twist. Although he gave up acting at the age of 19, Mark has made countless TV appearances, including more recently Pointless and The One Show. Janina Faye, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer A familiar face through the 60s, Janina made her name playing Tania in the 1958 adaptation of Dracula. Though she is probably more recognisable as Becky Thatcher in children’s TV series The Adventures of Tom Sawyer or in her later role as Amy March, the youngest of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women.
