Shropshire Council has revealed that it is to switch to frozen meal delivery services for elderly people in the area.
At present, members of the older generation have hot meals delivered to their homes, but the local authority advises that by switching to frozen produce some £200,000 per year will be saved, the Shropshire Star reports.
The savings from the proposed changes to the system will be put towards providing services that will support elderly people in the area.
Additionally, the council has said that the fortnightly delivery of frozen meals will give people more choice in terms of food selection and will ensure that the service is run in the most efficient way.
Simon Jones, cabinet member for adult services, advised: "Using the delivery of frozen meals means that the quality and choice of food on offer is much better."
Recent taste tests by Consumer Reports revealed that both the quality and taste of frozen convenience foods has improved "significantly" since they were last tested in 2004.
