Those who are hoping to stick to a strict calorie controlled diet may wish to opt for pre-packaged frozen meals, as one expert has suggested they can help consumers eat less by offering "instant portion control".
Registered dietician Leslie Beck tells the Globe and Mail that as well as helping people to control their portion sizes, frozen meals are extremely appealing in terms of their convenience for people who are short on time.
"With so many options crowding the frozen food aisle
there's bound to be something for everyone," she says.
"You'll find meals that are organic, vegetarian, low in calories, reduced fat, even some made with whole grains."
Ms Beck adds that the best way to ensure that people receive their UK-recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables per day is to add their own steamed vegetables or green salad to frozen ready meals.
Recent taste tests undertaken by Consumer Reports found that frozen diet meals have improved in both quality and flavour since they were last assessed in 2003.
