Reducing your salt intake can lower blood pressure within four weeks

Everyday an estimated 26 million people eat more than the recommended six gram daily intake of salt. Men are eating the most with a daily average of 10g, while woman consume an average of 8.1g a day. A high intake of salt is related to high blood pressure, which in turn is linked to heart disease and stroke.

If you are looking at reducing your salt intake we recommend the following: • Opt for herbs, lemon juice, pepper, garlic, ginger and other spices to help flavour meals – in fact it’s common to be able to detect more flavours after cutting down! • Cut down on salty snacks such as crisps and peanuts. • Choose the “low salt”, “moderate salt” or “no added salt” options. • Salt is often listed as Sodium - always read your food labels. To work out the salt content you need to multiply the sodium content by 2.2. At Wiltshire Farm Foods we have created a delicious range of meals suitable for those following a Moderate Salt Diet, which are just as tasty as our standard meals. So keep your heart healthy and try our Winter Comforts hearty Vegetable Hotpot, of lentils, barley, and root vegetables topped with sauté potatoes, served with roast potatoes, sprouts and carrots. For those with a sweet tooth our Mince Pies and Christmas Pudding with Custard are suitable for those following a moderate salt diet. All out moderate salt meals are indicated by the MS symbol. Are you following a moderate salt diet? Which is your favourite meal from our range?
