The recent detection of a case of bird flu on the Suffolk / Norfolk border has no safety implications for the human food chain, the Food Standards Agency has announced.
Properly cooked poultry and poultry products, including eggs, are safe to eat. The science shows that the virus isn't contracted by eating food – but by close contact with infected birds. The H5 virus is destroyed by cooking and we thoroughly cook and all our chicken, duck and turkey products – so there is no risk to our customers whatsoever
