Autumn is upon us and soon the trick or treaters will be out in force. This Halloween make sure any ‘nasties’ are knocking at the door and not on your plate. At Wiltshire Farm Foods we’re dedicated to providing you with the healthiest, most delicious dishes and in a bid for continuous improvement and in response to the most up-to-date nutritional information we’ve removed hydrogenated fats and banned over 40 additives across our entire range.
We’ve discovered that foods which contain hydrogenated vegetable oils may also contain trans fats, which have no nutritional value and raise cholesterol in the blood, increasing the risk of heart disease. Evidence suggests they may even be worse than saturated fats - and there are no guidelines to have them included in food nutritional information and ingredients. But not worry we’ve ensured all our meals and any ingredients we source are free from hydrogenated fats – good news for your heart!
An additive is “any substance intentionally added to food for a specific function that is not normally eaten as a food or used as a characteristic ingredient in food.” (Food Standards Authority) Approved additives undergo rigorous testing, and once deemed safe for use are given E numbers for food labelling. Additives are most commonly used for colouring foods and adding preservatives and flavours.
Even approved additives can cause unwanted side effects, particularly amongst children- you may not even realise you are suffering an allergic reaction as a result of E numbers. We’ve banned twenty artificial colours and over twenty preservatives and stabilisers, including the much-publicised MonoSodium Glutamate or MSG, attributed as causing symptoms such as headaches, nausea and drowsiness in some consumers.
Excessive salt intake has been linked to hypertension, or high blood pressure- tripling the chance of developing heart disease and the risk of stroke. Even if you haven’t been advised to follow a low-salt diet it is a relief to know that now 80% of your Wiltshire Farm Foods dishes are moderate salt.
So don’t be spooked - rest assured that with Wiltshire Farm Foods your meals are carefully monitored and free from any unnecessary ingredients as well as delicious!
may i just say what excellent service
we have from you thank you
